Gauge-Higgs Unification in Six Dimensions from the Heterotic String
Jonas Schmidt (DESY Hamburg)
05 July 2007, 14:15 - 16:00
We present an anisotropic limit of a T**6/Z6-II orbifold compactification of the heterotic string which gives rise to an effective orbifold GUT model in six dimensions. The six-torus factorizes into three two-tori, one of which is assumed to be much larger than the other two. In this picture the difference between GUT and string scales can be explained naturally. Our effective T**2/Z2 local GUT has vacua which give the MSSM in four dimensions without exotics. It is anomaly-free due to Green-Schwarz counter terms and reveals gauge-Higgs unification in six dimensions.
